Trillium Cove
The initial prompt for this project was “a cabin in the woods”. While that remained the central concept, the project was ultimately an exercise in balancing the traditional and contemporary.
This balance is best seen in the approach: the gable end of the house, with it’s wall-to-wall glazing, cantilevers over the landscape. This end of the house is a vaulted double-height great room, with steel fireplace and views into the forest. Off this great room is a spacious screened porch overlooking a small mountain stream. As one travels towards the back of the house, the scale shifts down for cozy bedrooms and private spaces. Upstairs, the primary bedroom is clad in wood and vaulted, giving it the feeling of an A-frame cabin from another time. Outside the primary suite, a small “nap nook” off the stairwell provides another spot to curl up with a good view.
The client, who runs a furniture company in New Orleans, custom fabricated the kitchen island and primary bathroom vanity. All interior wood, including the tongue-and-groove ceilings and wall paneling in the primary bedroom, was milled from trees felled on site. These are just some of the details that contribute to the beautifully bespoke nature of this build.
